I didn’t really transitionned to a vegan lifestyle… The vegan lifestyle just hit me in the face. How did that happened you may ask?
Well, my boyfriend and I were thinking about making healthy changes in our diet. We were both overweight and eating fast-food all the time so we tought we would change our eating habits. We started by watching a documentary on Netflix about the consequences of processed food and the benefits of a whole food diet on our bodies. Than, we watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, a documentary about a juicing fast that helped many people lose weight and improve their health. At this point, we were complety sold about changing our eating habits. We bought a juicer on Amazon and began to drink juices and eating plenty of fruits and veggies but we were still consumming animal products.
One day on Facebook I saw a video that changed me. I swallowed the truth pill without even asking for it. This 5 minutes video by Erin Janus explained the horrible and scary truth about the milk industry. I already knew it was bad. But this bad? Knowing the truth I knew I could’nt go back so I ditched dairy for good and decided it was time for me to go vegan. I had been living a lifestyle that I knew was bad for way too long.
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
― Dr. Seuss,
When I came up with this to my boyfriend, he was kind of hesitant. I was still in shock from my previous discoveries and I was seeing the world with my brand new vegan goggles. (OK I WAS ANNOYING!) I wanted to share what I knew with him so I made him watch the dairy video. He found it disgusting but not enough to come up with the same realisations I did. For days I would just hit him with facts about veganism, the more I knew, the more I wanted to share with the world and let me tell you he wasn’t happy about it. He didn’t get it. I had previously watched Vegucated on Netflix years ago and still refused to make the connections but it was good and informative so I thought it could help him understand. I told him « Please, can we watch this documentary and if this doesn’t change your mind, I will not talk about it anymore. » At first he was angry and sceptical but halfway trough I saw him getting more and more interested. An hour and half documentary and a small talk later, we were officially a vegan couple!
We are vegan since January and enjoying it so much! Neither of us could go back! He lost more than 10 pounds and we are cooking more than ever and trying new places to eat. It’s been such a great life change! This actually brought us closer and I’m so happy to be with a loving and compassionate being like him, who now sees the world like I do.
